Fall Porch Take 2

Is any one else feeling a little orange overload with fall decorating? This year I just wasn't feeling all too excited about my fall porch. I decided next year I would do something different, but after making an unexpected stop at Micheal's and seeing their flowers at 80% off, I decided I had another month left till Thanksgiving is over, why not change things up now?

Here was my inspiration picture from Pinterest/Better Homes and Gardens

Obviously, theirs look better, but I'm working with what I've got.

I got some corn husks bundled together from a produce stand. I painted my fake pumpkins white. The white flowers are fake bouquets from Micheal's marked down to $3.

The hydrangas were marked down to $1 a bundle. I bought 10 and used about 7 for my wreath. The rest I put in the urns.
 

The wreath! I love how it turned out! I removed the leaf garland from my grapevine wreath.

Then I tucked a hanging wisteria bunch (marked down to $3) in the wreath and used a little bit of floral wire to hold it in place.

 I did the same with the hydrangeas.

 Ta-da!

No more orange!

Fall Porch

Fall finally made it to the front porch!

 I'm also in love with my new wheat wreath that I found at Target!

Mirror Gallery Stair Wall

One thing I find challenging in my house is how low the ceilings are. Even over the stairs it feels closed off and makes me a little claustrophobic.

To help reflect light and make things seem brighter and more open, I've been putting mirrors parallel to the handrail. 

There's no natural light at the top of the stairs, so forgive these dark images.

I've been able to find most of the mirrors from thrift stores and on clearance at Hobby Lobby (love the 80-90% clearance sales) and spray paint them. I also got a little creative with some things I already had on hand.

DIY Faux Succulent Frame

And by "faux," I mean artificial succulents, of course! 

I have been drooling over some living succulent frames I saw on Pinterest. But, I don't feel like I have enough light in my living room to keep one alive. Hobby Lobby has some beautiful artificial succulents, but a worker told me they would never go on sale. So, I figured I'd just buy one with a coupon every time I was nearby until I had enough. Then I went to Target and saw this artificial succulent wreath. Someone had ripped one off, so it was 70% off. I grabbed it and decided to just use the remaining succulents from this wreath!

 
I had this old frame I got at a thrift store, that I've been waiting to use on just the perfect project.

I sanded it a little and painted it with some coral spray paint. I cut out a piece of cardboard to fit snuggly in the opening.

As I started to lay out my design, it became obvious that I'd need some sort of background, so you wouldn't just see cardboard in between the gaps.

I already had this beautiful sheet of moss still in the package, but even just using moss from the Dollar Tree would work since most of it will be covered.

 

 I cut and hot glued it in place.

I propped it up on a container so I could cut holes through the moss and cardboard.

I used a steak knife to cut an opening for the stems and then put hot glue on them to hold them in place.

I kept the stems short, so the frame would still be able to rest flat on the wall. (Back view).

 I love the end product!
